Eugenio de Santa Cruz y Espejo was an influential Ecuadorian sociologist and humanist of the 18th century, known for his pivotal role in inspiring the independence movement in Hispano-America, particularly through his contributions to the intellectual climate that encouraged the first cry for emancipation in Quito on August 10, 1809.
