Evangelos Averoff-Tossitsas

Evangelos Averoff-Tossitsas was a prominent Greek politician and a key figure in the New Democracy party. He served as a member of the Greek Parliament and held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Agriculture. Averoff-Tossitsas was known for his conservative political stance and his advocacy for a more aggressive opposition to the emerging socialist movements in Greece during the late 1970s and early 1980s. His rivalry with George Rallis for the leadership of the New Democracy party in 1980 highlighted the differing approaches within the party, with Averoff-Tossitsas favoring a more combative strategy against the rising influence of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK).
