Evaristo Álvarez

Evaristo Álvarez is a retired geologist and former librarian at the School of Mines of the University of Oviedo. He is an active member of an association opposing a mining project in Tapia de Casariego, Asturias, which aims to exploit what is claimed to be the largest gold deposit in Europe. Álvarez warns that the potential environmental and social costs of the project far outweigh any financial gains for the local community.
