Fatos Nano

Fatos Nano was a prominent Albanian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Albania during multiple terms in the 1990s and early 2000s. Born in Tirana in 1952, he studied economics and specialized in political economy. Nano's political career began in the early 1990s during a transitional phase for Albania, marked by his appointment as Prime Minister in 1991. His tenure was tumultuous, facing economic challenges and public unrest, leading to his resignation and subsequent imprisonment on corruption charges that were widely viewed as politically motivated. After serving five years in prison, he returned to politics, becoming Prime Minister again in 1997 amidst national turmoil and later in 2002. After losing leadership in 2005, he retired from active politics. Nano passed away at the age of 73 in Tirana after struggling with severe health issues.
