The Favela López family is implicated in a network of companies that supply precursors and chemical products to the Sinaloa Cartel, specifically the faction known as 'Los Chapitos', led by Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán's sons. As of May 2023, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned their company Sumilab for its role in providing materials necessary for the illicit production of fentanyl and methamphetamine, highlighting their significant contribution to the ongoing drug crisis.
