Feidias
Feidias was an ancient Greek sculptor renowned for his monumental works, including the statue of Zeus at Olympia, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Active during the 5th century BC, he is best known for his role in the artistic decoration of the Parthenon in Athens, where he led a team of craftsmen to create stunning sculptures that celebrated the city’s patron goddess, Athena. Feidias faced political challenges and accusations of impiety, which led him to flee to Olympia, where he created his greatest masterpiece, the seated figure of Zeus, crafted from gold and ivory and towering nearly 13 meters high. His innovative approach and artistic vision left a lasting impact on classical art and architecture.
