Feng Tao

academic China

Feng Tao, also known as Franklin, is a chemistry professor who gained national attention after being arrested under a Trump-era initiative targeting Chinese economic espionage. Accused of concealing his ties to a Chinese university while conducting federally funded research at the University of Kansas, Dr. Tao faced significant legal battles over five years. In July, a federal appeals court overturned his conviction, yet the University of Kansas has not reinstated him. He is currently suing the university for wrongful termination, claiming unlawful surveillance and violation of faculty policies.
