Born in Lisbon in 1195, Fernando de Bulhões e Taveira de Azevedo, better known as Saint Anthony, was a Portuguese Catholic priest and a member of the Order of Friars Minor. Initially joining the Augustinian Order at the age of 15, he later switched to the Franciscans after feeling a calling to missionary work. Saint Anthony became known for his miraculous works, with 53 miracles attributed to him, although his fame as the 'santo casamenteiro' or 'saint of marriage' emerged later.
