Fernando Santistevan

Fernando Santistevan is a 77-year-old retired educator from Ecuador who has become a vocal advocate for patients in need of prosthetic limbs. Following the amputation of his left leg due to an aneurysm-induced thrombosis in June 2021, he has faced significant challenges accessing necessary medical devices, specifically a prosthesis he cannot afford due to outstanding medical debts. He recently expressed his frustration after the hospital Teodoro Maldonado Carbo declared the procurement of 247 prosthetics for patients like him as 'deserted,' leaving him and many others still waiting for essential support.
