Folk Bernadotte
Count Folke Bernadotte was a Swedish diplomat and United Nations mediator, famed for his efforts to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict in the late 1940s. He is best remembered for his peace initiatives during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and for his role in negotiating the release of prisoners. Tragically, his life was cut short when he was assassinated in Jerusalem in September 1948 by members of the extremist group Lehi, a reflection of the tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
