Despite a long career without receiving threats from organized crime, Fontes expressed concerns for his safety in retirement, particularly living in an area dominated by PCC influences. Tragically, he was executed in Praia Grande while driving, highlighting the ongoing dangers faced by law enforcement officials in Brazil.
