Francine M. G. McCarthy is a professor of Earth Sciences at Brock University and a leading advocate for the recognition of the Anthropocene as a formal geological epoch. She recently led a group of scientists in publishing a comment in AGU Advances, arguing against criticisms of the Anthropocene's proposed start and advocating for its acknowledgment given the unprecedented changes induced by human activity.
