Francis Willughby
Francis Willughby (1635-1672) was an English ornithologist and ichthyologist, known for his pioneering work in the study of natural history alongside his mentor, John Ray. Despite his untimely death at the age of 37, Willughby's contributions to the classification and understanding of birds and fish were significant. His incomplete works were later finished by Ray, most notably 'Ornithologiae Libri Tres' and 'Historia Piscium', which aimed to provide a more systematic approach to the study of species.
