Francisco Gorriti
Francisco Gorriti was a significant historical figure in Uruguay, known for being imprisoned on Isla Gorriti from 1753 to 1757. He was the last Commander of Montevideo, and his conflict with the newly appointed Governor José Joaquín de Viana led to his incarceration, after which the island was named in his honor.
