Fray Francisco Ramón Valentín Casaus y Torres was a prominent Spanish Dominican friar and bishop, born on February 13, 1765, in Jaca, Aragón. He served as the auxiliary bishop of Oaxaca before being appointed the archbishop of Santiago de Guatemala in 1811. Casaus y Torres played a significant role during a turbulent period leading up to Guatemala's independence, advocating for stability in the face of revolutionary ideas. He was known for his efforts to strengthen the ecclesiastical organization amidst the political changes of the time. His tenure was marked by significant events, including the proclamation of independence and subsequent political realignments. Tragically, he was forcibly expelled from Guatemala in 1829 during the Morazán invasion and died in exile in Havana, Cuba, on November 10, 1845.
