Fred W. Haise Jr. is a former NASA astronaut best known for his role as the lunar module pilot on the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission in April 1970. During this mission, which faced a critical in-flight emergency due to an oxygen tank explosion, Haise and his crewmates worked tirelessly to ensure their safe return to Earth. Despite the mission being officially classified as a failure, it is celebrated as one of NASA's greatest successes in terms of ingenuity and teamwork. Haise later flew on the Space Shuttle Enterprise and continued to contribute to aerospace engineering and education.
