Frederic W. H. Myers

Frederic William Henry Myers (1843-1901) was a British poet and a pioneering figure in the study of psychical research, particularly known for his work on the nature of consciousness and the afterlife. He co-founded the Society for Psychical Research in 1882, which aimed to investigate paranormal phenomena, including telepathy and reincarnation. Myers is perhaps best known for his concept of the 'subliminal self,' which suggested that there are aspects of the mind that operate outside of conscious awareness. His work laid the groundwork for future studies on the unconscious mind and influenced figures like Carl Jung, particularly in discussions surrounding the unconscious and its connection to mysticism and spirituality.
