Frédiane Hakuziyaremye

Frédiane Hakuziyaremye is a 53-year-old primary school teacher and mother of two from Gitega, Burundi. She has bravely shared her harrowing experiences of domestic violence, including physical abuse and emotional humiliation by her husband, who abandoned her for another woman in 2011. Despite facing stigma and a lack of support from her community, Hakuziyaremye took steps to rebuild her life independently, acquiring land and participating in cooperatives. After her husband's return in 2018 and his attempts to reclaim her properties, she decided to speak out and seek justice, highlighting the pressing need for support and legal action against domestic violence.
