Frits Pengel

Frits Pengel is a prominent television pioneer in Suriname, recognized for his significant contributions to the media landscape of the country. In 1965, he established the state television station STVS under the direction of then-Prime Minister Johan Adolf Pengel, and he served as its director for several decades. His work in introducing television to Suriname greatly impacted the dissemination of information and entertainment in the nation. In 2023, he was awarded the highest state honor, being named a Grand Officer in the Order of the Palm, during a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Suriname's independence, celebrating his lasting influence on Surinamese media.
