Gabriela Cartagena Gómez, affectionately known as Gaby, was a 20-year-old American student at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, where she was pursuing a degree in Economics and Business with a focus on French. Tragically, she lost her life on June 20 while snorkeling in Bahía de las Águilas, Dominican Republic, after being struck by a boat. Gaby was a vibrant and adventurous spirit, having traveled to 38 countries and developed a passion for music and sports from a young age. Her mother, Olga Gómez, describes her as a bright light and the heart of their family, known for her dedication to community service and her love for the Dominican Republic, where she spent her high school years. Gaby's untimely death has sparked calls for justice and improved safety regulations in tourist areas.
