Gê Coelho

Gê Coelho is a Brazilian author, historian, and social entrepreneur from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Overcoming significant challenges, including a cognitive disability that initially hindered his education, Gê has achieved remarkable academic success, earning degrees in History, a master's in Philosophy, and currently pursuing a doctorate in Bioethics. His work focuses on the potential of favelas as sites of cultural and intellectual production, challenging prevailing stereotypes of marginalization. His debut book, 'Favelismo — A revolução que vem das favelas,' was a semifinalist for the prestigious Jabuti Award, highlighting the transformative power of these communities. Gê's upcoming fictional work, 'Elaine Cristina,' aims to tell the stories of Black women, further emphasizing the rich narratives emerging from Brazil's favelas.
