General von Schleicher
General von Schleicher was a prominent figure in early 20th-century Germany, known for his role as a military leader during the Weimar Republic. He served as Reichswehr Minister and was involved in the political machinations that led to the rise of the Nazi Party. His use of the term "innerer Schweinehund" in a radio address shifted its meaning from a critique of societal weaknesses to a call for personal discipline among soldiers. Despite his initial influence, he ultimately fell victim to the very political currents he tried to navigate, being assassinated during the Night of the Long Knives in 1934.
