George Edalji
George Edalji was a British lawyer of Indian descent who became embroiled in a notorious legal case in the early 20th century. He was wrongfully convicted of animal cruelty and sentenced to seven years in prison based on circumstantial evidence. Despite his calm demeanor and reputation as a gentleman, the evidence against him, including a matching handwriting analysis, led to his conviction. After serving three years, Edalji was released but continued to bear the stigma of his wrongful conviction. He sought to clear his name and regain his livelihood, ultimately reaching out to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, for assistance in proving his innocence.
