George Morrison

George Morrison was a pioneering Irish filmmaker, best known for his seminal documentary Mise Éire, which was the first full-length feature film produced in the Irish language. Born in 1922 in Tramore, Co Waterford, he left medical studies at Trinity College to pursue a career in the arts, ultimately becoming a significant figure in Irish cinema. His innovative techniques in filmmaking and his ability to blend film with music have left a lasting impact on Irish culture. Morrison was honored with the title of Saoi of Aosdána in 2017, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the arts.
