George Simcich

George Simcich is a Croatian-Canadian soccer pioneer and former national team player, born on January 1, 1942, in Rijeka, Croatia. He began his professional career with HNK Rijeka before immigrating to Canada in 1964, where he became a prominent figure in the Toronto soccer community. As the general manager of Toronto Metros-Croatia, he led the team to win the North American Soccer League Soccer Bowl in 1976, making it the city’s first professional championship in soccer. Simcich, who has worked tirelessly to promote the sport, continues to be an ardent supporter and observer of soccer, marveling at the growth of the game in Canada, especially as the national team competes on the world stage.
