Gert Oostindie is a prominent Dutch historian and scholar known for his expertise in Caribbean history, particularly the colonial past of Suriname and the Dutch Caribbean. Recently, he has taken on the role of chair of the Stichting Buku – Bibliotheca Surinamica, an organization dedicated to ensuring the continuity of Carl Haarnack's extensive collection of Surinamese literature and artifacts, thereby contributing to the education and public understanding of Surinamese history.
