Giampolo Goattin

Giampolo Goattin is a former Italian Air Force pilot and test pilot known for his expertise in military aviation. Born in Verona and later moving to Turin, he gained recognition as one of Italy's top gun pilots, having received prestigious accolades such as the 'Flight Commander of the Year' from American forces while piloting F-16s. He transitioned to a role as a test pilot for Aermacchi-Leonardo after leaving the military in 2007. Goattin was recently in the news due to his involvement in a tragic aviation accident in 2022, where he performed a heroic maneuver to avoid crashing into populated areas, resulting in the death of his co-pilot, Dave Ashley, and leading to his indictment alongside several executives from Leonardo Spa for alleged aviation disaster and negligent homicide.
