Giorgio Pietrangeli, who passed away at the age of 59 after a long battle with cancer, was a prominent figure in Italian surfing during the 1980s. He represented Italy at international competitions, including the World Championships in Puerto Rico and the European Championships in Portugal, and he was known for winning the Italian Championship in Viareggio in 1989. He was the son of legendary Italian tennis player Nicola Pietrangeli.
