
Gladys Báez
Gladys Báez was a prominent Nicaraguan politician and member of the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN), revered for her crucial role in the Sandinista revolution against the Somoza dictatorship in the 1960s. Despite facing imprisonment and torture during her youth, she became a respected figure in the National Assembly, serving as a legislator since 2002. Her political career was marked by numerous honors, including being named a 'Daughter of Distinction' by the municipality of Matiguás and receiving the General José Dolores Estrada Order for her contributions to the Sandinista cause. She passed away in August 2023, shortly after her son, Camilo, was imprisoned, which significantly impacted her health.
