Gloria Simms
Gloria ‘Mama G’ Simms is a prominent cultural ambassador and matriarch of the Charles Town Maroons in Jamaica. Born in Wakefield, Trelawny, she has dedicated her life to preserving and promoting the heritage of the Trelawny Town Maroons. A spiritual leader and advocate for indigenous rights, Simms was installed as the first female gaamang, or paramount chief, of the Maroons in a historic ceremony in 2014.
