Gloria ‘Mama G’ Simms is a prominent cultural ambassador and matriarch of the Charles Town Maroons in Jamaica. Born in Wakefield, Trelawny, she has dedicated her life to preserving and promoting the heritage of the Trelawny Town Maroons. A spiritual leader and advocate for indigenous rights, Simms was installed as the first female gaamang, or paramount chief, of the Maroons in a historic ceremony in 2014. She has represented Jamaica on various international platforms and is known for her captivating speeches on the importance of women in society. Recently, she was honored with a lifetime achievement trophy at the International Charles Town Maroon Conference and Festival for her outstanding service to her community.
