Gnanasara Thera is a prominent Buddhist monk and the secretary of the Bodhu Bala Sena organization in Sri Lanka. He gained notoriety for his controversial statements and actions, often relating to the protection of Buddhist interests in the country. In 2018, he was sentenced to six years in prison for contempt of court but was later granted a presidential pardon by then-President Maithripala Sirisena, which has been deemed invalid by the Supreme Court.
