Gu Xinyi was a prominent Chinese engineer and academic, born in Shanghai in January 1937. He graduated from the Central Fuel Industry Cadre School in 1956 and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995. Renowned for his expertise in petroleum mining machinery and offshore oil platforms, he made significant contributions to the field, including the invention of a walking bottom drilling platform suitable for shallow waters and the development of China's first bottom-sitting oil drilling ship. Throughout his career, Gu was dedicated to research and engineering, and even in his later years, he continued to work tirelessly in the petroleum equipment sector until his passing on January 2, 2024, at the age of 88.
