H B Karibasamma

H B Karibasamma, an 85-year-old retired government schoolteacher from Karnataka, has dedicated the last 24 years of her life to advocating for the right to die with dignity for terminally ill patients. After battling severe health issues including a slipped disc for over 30 years and a recent cancer diagnosis, she is now on the verge of becoming the first beneficiary of this right in Karnataka, following the state's recent circular on the matter. Despite significant personal sacrifices, including losing her property and distancing from relatives, Karibasamma remains steadfast in her belief that those suffering from terminal illnesses deserve a dignified end to their lives.
