Hafiza

Hafiza is a 21-year-old woman from el-Fasher, Sudan, who witnessed the tragic death of her mother during a shelling incident in August 2024 amid the ongoing civil war. After losing her mother, she became the primary caregiver for her younger brother and two teenage sisters, following the death of their father prior to the conflict. Despite the dire circumstances, Hafiza has dedicated herself to helping displaced individuals by volunteering to distribute food and blankets. Her resilience and courage are notably captured in video messages sent to the BBC, where she shares her grief and the harsh realities faced by her community.
