Hàm Nghi
Hàm Nghi (1871-1944), born Nguyễn Phúc Minh, was the eighth emperor of the Nguyễn dynasty in Vietnam. Ascending to the throne at just 13 years old in 1884, he became a symbol of resistance against French colonial rule after the fall of Huế. Following his arrest in 1888, he was exiled to Algeria, where he developed his passion for painting. His art reflects a deep love for his homeland and subtle resistance to oppression. Hàm Nghi's paintings have been increasingly recognized posthumously, with recent exhibitions showcasing his artistic legacy.
