Han ter Laag was a Dutch journalist who, along with three of his colleagues, was tragically killed while documenting the political situation in El Salvador during its civil war. On March 17, 1982, ter Laag and the team from IKON tv were ambushed by military forces, an event that highlighted the dangers faced by journalists in conflict zones. His death, alongside that of his colleagues, has been recognized as a significant crime against humanity, leading to a recent landmark ruling in which military officials were held accountable for their involvement in the killings.
