Hans Marsalek
Hans Marsalek was an Austrian police officer and later a key figure in the country's internal intelligence operations during the Cold War. Born in Vienna in 1914, he became known for his anti-Nazi resistance activities during World War II, leading to his imprisonment in the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he documented Nazi atrocities. After the war, he helped establish the Vienna State Police and was involved in counterintelligence efforts. Marsalek's espionage activities included working with Czechoslovak intelligence, where he provided valuable information from within the Austrian security apparatus. His legacy is further complicated by being the grandfather of Jan Marsalek, a fugitive implicated in a major financial scandal.
