Hasán Bajá
Hasán Bajá was a Venetian nobleman who converted to Islam and became the Bey of Algiers during the late 16th century. He is notably recognized for his complex relationship with the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes, who was captured and imprisoned in Algiers during this period. Bajá's role in Cervantes' life provides a unique lens through which to explore themes of power, captivity, and possibly homoerotic relationships, as depicted in Alejandro Amenábar's recent film 'El cautivo'.
