Hedwig Hoess

Hedwig Hoess was the wife of Rudolf Hoess, the commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp. While her husband was responsible for immense atrocities during the Holocaust, Hedwig managed the household and cared for their children in close proximity to the horrors of the concentration camp. Her life represents the complex and often disturbing intersections of domesticity and evil during this dark period of history.
