Henrique Alves Costa

Henrique Alves Costa (1910-1988) was a significant figure in Portuguese cinema, known for his roles as a historian, critic, and cineclubista. Born and raised in Porto, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Cineclube do Porto in 1947 and played a key role in the organization of the historic Semana do Cinema Português in 1967. His enduring friendship with renowned filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira greatly influenced his contributions to film criticism in publications such as Invicta-Cine and O Comércio do Porto. Despite his passing, Costa's legacy continues to be celebrated and remembered, particularly through recent documentary projects highlighting his impact on Portuguese cinema.
