Herbert Mullin was an American serial killer born on April 18, 1947, in Santa Cruz, California. He is infamous for committing a series of murders between 1972 and 1973, driven by a delusional belief that he was preventing catastrophic earthquakes through human sacrifices. Mullin was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, which manifested in his early twenties. Despite a seemingly normal childhood, his mental health deteriorated, leading to the brutal killings of ten individuals. He was apprehended in 1973 and sentenced to multiple life terms in prison, where he remained until his death in 2022.
