Herman Willem Deandels

Herman Willem Deandels was a Dutch colonial governor-general of Indonesia, notable for his role in establishing the early defense infrastructure in the region during the early 19th century. He is remembered for founding the first weapons workshop in Surabaya in 1808, which laid the groundwork for Indonesia's defense industry.
