Hildemar Diniz

Hildemar Diniz, known as Monarco, was a revered Brazilian sambista and a key figure in the Portela samba school. He gained acclaim for his contributions to samba music, being closely associated with legends like Paulinho da Viola and Clara Nunes. Born in 1933 in Nova Iguaçu, he started his musical journey at a young age, becoming part of the Ala de Compositores of Portela in the 1950s. Monarco was recognized for his unique voice and songwriting abilities, leaving a lasting legacy in the samba community until his passing in December 2021.
