Hizbollah, also spelled Hezbollah, is a Shiite Islamist political party and militant group based in Lebanon, founded in the early 1980s during the Lebanese Civil War. It emerged as a response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon and has since become a significant political and military force in the region. Hizbollah is known for its strong anti-Israel stance and has been involved in numerous conflicts with Israeli forces. The organization operates as both a political party in the Lebanese parliament and a paramilitary group, receiving support from Iran and Syria. Recently, Hizbollah was in the news due to allegations made by Syrian armed groups claiming that members of Hizbollah were involved in cross-border incidents, which Hizbollah has categorically denied.
