Honoré Nabéré Traoré was a prominent Burkinabé military officer who served as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces from 2011 to 2014. Born on September 28, 1957, in Dédougou, he played a significant role in Burkina Faso's military history, particularly during the tumultuous period of the 2014 popular uprising that led to the resignation of President Blaise Compaoré. Following the uprising, Traoré briefly assumed the role of interim head of state before his leadership was challenged by the military's support for Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida. He passed away on May 24, 2026, in Ouagadougou, marking the end of an era in the country's military history.
