Hsia is a man convicted of faking a marriage with an 18-year-old high school student, Lai, in order to inherit a substantial fortune. In 2023, he was found guilty of forgery and sentenced to 18 months in prison, but prosecutors recently decided not to charge him with murder following the suspicious death of Lai, who was found dead shortly after their marriage registration. Despite evidence suggesting Lai's death may have been a suicide, the case remains under review as Lai's family seeks further investigation.
