Humberto Bettencourt Santos

Humberto Bettencourt Santos was a prominent Cape Verdean figure known for his multifaceted contributions to the nation, including his roles as a musician, ambassador, and businessman. Born in 1940 in Santo Antão, he dedicated his life to the arts and the political landscape of Cape Verde, playing a significant role in the country's journey to independence. He was a passionate advocate for Cape Verdean culture, serving as a member of the delegation that negotiated the terms of independence with Portugal. He held various significant positions including the presidency of CVTelecom and was an active participant in promoting the morna music genre as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
