Hyacinth Carey
Hyacinth Carey, affectionately known as 'Dawn' or 'Ma Barka', is a dedicated public-cleansing supervisor with the National Solid Waste Management Authority in Montego Bay, Jamaica. At 65 years old, she is a familiar face on the streets every morning from 4:30 a.m., ensuring the city remains clean and presentable for its residents. Renowned for her strong work ethic and outspoken personality, Dawn has earned a reputation as a local legend, often referred to as 'miserable' for her no-nonsense attitude towards cleanliness. Despite officially retiring a year ago, her commitment to her job led her to continue working, and she actively participates in community cleaning efforts, particularly at the local market. Dawn is a mother of four, though she tragically lost one daughter, and looks forward to spending more time with her remaining daughters and grandchildren after her eventual retirement.
