I. Zarucka, a 22-year-old Ukrainian woman who sought asylum in the United States following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, was tragically attacked on August 22 while riding the Lynx Blue Line train in Charlotte, North Carolina, in what has been described as an unprovoked assault.
