Iacob Ieraclid
Iacob Ieraclid, also known as Despot Vodă, was a Greek adventurer born in 1511 who became the first ruler of a Romanian principality to envision the unification of Wallachia, Transylvania, and Moldova. Initially a poor child, Iacob rose to prominence after inheriting wealth from his benefactor in Samos. He gained military experience in Europe, ultimately seizing the Moldavian throne in 1561. During his brief reign, he sought to modernize Moldova and advocated for a Dacian Kingdom, promoting the shared Roman heritage of the three principalities while attempting to liberate them from Ottoman influence. His ambitions were cut short when he was betrayed and killed in battle.
